Silver Gelatin Prints & Screenprinted Text on Photographic Backdrops
Exhibited as part of Work In Progress: New Work by Caroline Douglas, Lena Dobrowolska & Morwenna Kearsley at Stills (Edinburgh)
True Stories is a body of work produced whilst on residency at the Fondazione Fotografia in Modena. During my stay, the town endured a series of strong earthquakes and tremors, resulting in much devastation. The work attempts to question the objectivity of two forms of documentation: the photograph and the written observation. The images were gleaned from the Fondatzione’s archive in a box titled “Natural Disasters” and the text comes from my own observations and stories heard or read at the time. The photographs were displayed in traditional mounts and frames and sat opposite the text prices, which were screenprinted in silver onto photographic backdrops and hung floor to ceiling.
